My Art

"And what more could I possibly ask as an artist than that your most precious visions, however rare, assume sometimes the forms of my images?"

- Maya Deren

If life is a secret between a body and a soul, then so is art. No amount of explanation could ever hope to reveal the conversation between an artist, her subconscious, and the materials she uses to bring her work into the world. That conversation is one that cannot be recorded by even the most sophisticated technology. Even the artist's closest associates can only guess at the exchange.

With that said, there are a few things I can tell you about my art that may shine some light on my works and the meanings behind them. I think of myself as a bricoleur - one who takes old, cast off things and makes them new again. I embrace this process of bricolage not only because it is ecological, but because I want to see the real soul of these cast offs, I want to hear whatever song they have hidden underneath their worn exterior. It is similar to the feelings I have for the cast offs of human society - that behind every misfit there is a beautiful soul waiting to be set free.
